Snoring & Sleep Apnoea

The main cause of snoring is due to the partial closure of the airway during sleep. During sleep, muscles in the neck relax and for some people the soft tissue in the upper throat vibrates. This makes the sound we know as snoring.

Some snorers also stop breathing – a medical condition called Sleep Apnoea. This is caused by the airway closing completely during sleep thereby preventing snorers from breathing for a while. This condition is called Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and can have serious health issues.

At Bridge Dental, your dentist may be able to make an appliance for you to be worn at night to help position the lower jaw forwards and thereby opening up the airway.

If snoring is an issue for you all your partner we may be able to help!
